Good afternoon to all.

My name is Thom Bloomquist, CRNA. I have recently moved to the UP of MI

(USA).

I have always thought that our job didn't end just because we got a

patient to recovery room. As a polio kid and amputee, I grew to dislike

pain and feel most other folks would rather do without it. I hope to

learn from this forum.

Good luck to all and thanks to Stephen Barach for getting Analgesia off

the ground.

Thank you for allowing me to subscribe to analgesia. I

am a CRNA working in Arizona. and would like to hear what is

being done for post-op pain management. Would like to hear

about technique's, medications, and workshops on different

forms of analgesia. Looking forward to receiving messages

from analgesia and hope to be able to expand my knowledge in

this area.

Thank You

Hello to all:

I'm yet another veterinary anaesthetist - it's really quite a small profession

but we all seem to subscribe to this list. Like others, I'm interested in pain

recognition and management especially in laboratory animals. I've worked in

various centres in the UK and Canada and currently work for a pharmaceutical

company in New Jersey. As well as anaesthesia and pain management I'm very

interested in respiratory mechanics and non-invasive measurements of pulmonary

function.

I subscribe to several special interest lists and would like to make one plea:

please keep the list moderated with an iron fist! I've watched unmoderated and

poorly moderated lists degenerate rapidly into little more than electronic soap

boxes.

I never received the message that apparently everyone has, requesting a

personal introduction, but it seems like the polite thing to do. I am

an anesthesiologist who has been practicing for the past 6 years at

three different community hospitals in and around Honolulu, Hawaii,

USA. Most of my practice is OR-based, but I obviously have an interest

in all analgesia-related issues. In addition to the usual acute pain

management that comes with post-operative patient care, I occasionally

provide in- and out-patient chronic pain services. I look forward to

much lively and useful discussion on this list.

Hi Analgesia

I'm Petrus van Staden, Lurker extraordinaire, Consultant in Anesthetics

I am fairly "young" in anaesthesia, (2 years Post Qualifying), and

therefore feel that i don't always have something to say. Then I shut up

and learn, or ask questions.

I am more interested in acute and post op pain management, ever ready

for new cheap recipes that work.

I also have an interest in regional techniques, especially in the

setting of day surgery combined withconscious sedation.

However, the rapid increase in knowledge in chronic pain also fascinates

me.

Hmm, I didn't either.

I've been practicing veterinary anesthesia at the Univ of Calif, Davis'

Veterinary Medical Teaching Hosp for 17yr, working primarily in the OR on

horses, dogs & cats, but also other domestic animals, & have worked in the

small animal ICU. Currently am in an oncall anesthesia position, ie

anesthetic management & immediate postop pain management of these animals.

I also do consulting in anesthesia for laboratory animals in biomedical

research facilities.

I'm interested in methods of pain assessment & treatment which can be

applied to nonhuman animals. Veterinary anesthesiologists are trained in &

get plenty of experience in some aspects of acute pain management, but most

of us have little experience in treating chronic pain. Most of those cases

are managed by primary care clinicians w/ NSAIDs w/ variable success. I

think that there's a lot more that can be done in this area. Other

treatments are used in human patients & I've learned about some of them

from GASNet & CCM-L. I look forward to learning more about all this stuff

from discussions on this list.

Like Dennis Gunderson, I have interest in this list for a variety of

reasons. In my former life, I was an anesthesiologist and had a busy pain

practice.

Now, I am a medical informatician (translate -- computer hack for hire).

One special interest I have is using database programs to hold information

about medical practice. Not as a record-keeping device, but as an

information repository.

I am developing an application for acute pain services which will be used

on a PalmPilot, with the information stored on the desktop with MS Access.

Simple and affordable. Anyone with input or similar interest in developing

such a program, email me privately with wishes and suggestions.

thanks.
